DESCRIPTION
I am an activist for Social Justice. An activist for people who’s civil rights has been violated. For seventy plus years, I have been fighting in the trenches, walking in the shadows for justice, keeping a mild-mannered and honorable demeanor for the rights of all people. Every since I started the fight, I have felt that our system of justice needs changing and I have sought to change all that I could; when I could not I asked God to do the rest. “Pioneer for Social Justice” is my life’s story and a realization of the presence of God. I endeavored to pursue and seek some equality in my life’s long journey to obtain justice for myself, my family and the people I saw mistreated during the struggle for social justice. The search for justice and what was so given for others was so hard to accomplish for the small minority.
ENDORSEMENT
During the 16 years that I served as Executive Director of the NAACP, it was my privilege to work more closely with Jesse D. Scott than with any other president outside the State of New York. At that time, I spoke at nearly every major convention in America; Labor Unions, Fraternities, and Sororities you name it, I was there. In addition, I was on the board of a beautiful 98 unit housing complex owned by the NAACP in Las Vegas. I found myself in Las Vegas at least 15 to 25 times a year; and on every trip I could depend on Jesse Scott, my director, my leader, my advisor and my confidant. He knew, in the State of Nevada where every tree had fallen, where every trail had been blazed and where they were planning to blaze new trails. So I relied on him, and he never let me down. Also, his work carried him into high places; and his occupation, Director of the Human Rights Commission, (check this title out). In this occupation, he was kept involved and aware of every possible problem potentiality associated with the minority population of that state. One must remember that, assuredly, Nevada was not noted for its liberality toward minorities. In fact, in the early days of the gambling craze or boom, Las Vegas and Reno were segregated; and in Las Vegas black people were not welcome even in the state of Nevada. Much had to be done by Jesse Scott; he paved the way, opened the path, blazed new trails and established a foundation on which new opportunities for the minority communities of America could be fully accepted in Nevada. It was my privilege to work with him in blazing and opening these trails.
I was happy to have had the opportunity to be associated with him. I invite you to read this very interesting memoir of the story of one man's life that showed what can be done when you have to do it and proceed along the way. I trust you will enjoy this narrative, ‘Pioneer For Social Justice’ even as I did.
